Bob Hill - On A Balcony Ink Pastel

Born in Belgrave, Victoria in 1924, Bob was the son of Robert Clyde Packer and Ernestine Hemmings aka Hill, journalist and author.

Having had his grandmother teach him the rudiments of oil painting, Bob enrolled at East Sydney Tech. Art School in 1940 under Director Frank Medworth. He studied with the likes of Dobell, Eric Wilson, Murch, Townshend and Meere.

In 1946 Bob travelled to Perth, exhibiting paintings at Claude Hotchin Galleries where he was encouraged by the Durak sisters and H. Drake-Brockman, to work at art.

After further moves, jobs and marriage, Bob continued to work wherever his travels took him, sketching in his spare time. After his marriage ended, Bob found himself in Brisbane. Here he created art and sold many pastels and oil paintings privately and through Philip Bacon Galleries as well as others.

In 1987 Bob moved to Melbourne where he ran a bookshop in Elwood and created miniature etchings, monoprints and oils which generated a good public response.

Moving to Trentham in 1990 found Bob working on his art more than ever. He has exhibited frequently at The Printmaker's Gallery in Fitzroy and has sold numerous pastels and oils in local galleries all over the hinterland.
